Phil Gammage returns with a new album of all original songs called Used Man for Sale. This native Texan and long-time New Yorker has been releasing music since the early 1990s and Used Man For Sale is a ten-track continuation of a legacy that spans decades. The album is by design an honest and stripped down recording free of studio gimmicks. Recorded with some of New York’s greatest players, it explores Phil’s roots-inspired songwriting style — focusing on blues and countrypolitan. Eight albums and numerous songs featured in television shows and commercials have earned Phil a growing following and a steady hum of praise.

Phil’s style of roots and blues influenced music has been compared to everyone from Scott Walker to Elvis Presley — or as the Trouser Press once wrote “…underwrought darkside Americana echoing Nick Cave’s fascinations minus the melodrama. Which might well make Gammage this generation’s Hank Williams.”.

Robert Ross, from Popdose wrote about the album “…a great/pleasant surprise. Adventures In Bluesland is not so much an adventure but a pleasurable listening trip.”

And Iman Lababedi at Rock NYC and Recorded wrote “It is really about Phil’s wonderful singing… Phil doesn’t have a bad song in the bunch on this perfectly executed faux-blues album.”

Originally from Houston, Texas and currently living in New York, Gammage co-founded post punk legends Certain General and toured both the U.S. and Europe with the band. Moving on to explore his musical roots, he released two acclaimed solo albums Night Train and Kneel to the Rising Sun in the 1990’s on France’s influential record label New Rose (Alex Chilton, Gun Club, The Replacements). In the years before the music genre term “Americana” was even being used, these albums explored traditions like blues, country, and folk. By paying tribute to these styles in his own songwriting, Phil gave the music a fresh sound that still sounds brilliant today. Subsequent albums appeared on various American and French labels into the 2000’s. Phil returned in 2014 with his stellar Adventures in Bluesland album. More recently, a collaboration with poet / activist/ American folk hero John Sinclair resulted in the new live album Keeping the Blues Alive. 2015 saw the release of the debut album The American Dream from the band Adventures in Bluesland featuring nine Gammage compositionsl

Phil Gammage is currently performing solo, with his small combo or with his five piece powerhouse band Adventures in Bluesland (same name as Phil’s album).

He is the consummate live performer, lyricist, singer, guitarist, and harmonica player who brings a unique depth and drama to his music.
